All that went down in old Delhi during demolition drive

The encroachments included portions of a road, a footpath, a community hall, a parking area and a private diagnostic centre. Madhur Verma, Joint Commissioner of Police, Central Range, said a few miscreants attempted to disrupt the drive by throwing stones.

MCD's pre-dawn demolition drive in Old Delhi near Faiz-e-Ilahi mosque turned violent on Wednesday. Tension flared in Old Delhi after a group of miscreants attempted to break police barricades put up during the drive. Several protesters even resorted to stone pelting during a demolition drive near Turkman Gate.

Delhi Police said the situation arose when MCD teams began removing encroachments close to a mosque in Old Delhi.

To control the escalating situation, police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. MCD officials clarified that the mosque structure itself was not touched.
