Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Modi said that with the completion of Ram Temple, "wounds and pain of centuries"  have healed today.

"Ayodhya is witnessing another epochal event in its history; entire country, globe is immersed in Ram. This sacred flag will stand as a testament that truth ultimately triumphs over falsehood. Wounds and pain of centuries are healing today; a 500-year-old resolve is being fulfilled," he said.

"I congratulate Ram 'bhakts' on this momentous occasion, all those who helped in any way in Ram temple construction. Our Ram doesn't discriminate and we too are moving forward with the same spirit," he added.

The sacred flag bears the image of a radiant sun symbolising the 'Surya Vansh' of Lord Rama, with an 'Om' inscribed on it along with the image of Kovidar tree.

The programme is being held place on the "auspicious Panchami of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Margashirsha, coinciding with the Abhijit Muhurat of Shri Ram and Maa Sita's Vivah Panchami, a day symbolising divine union. This date also marks the martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru, who meditated in Ayodhya for 48 uninterrupted hours in the 17th century, further enhancing the spiritual significance of the day," PM Modi's office said in a statement.

PM Modi had laid the foundation stone for Ram Mandir in August 2020, a year after the Supreme Court allotted the entire 2.77-acre disputed land for the construction of the temple. PM Modi led the consecration or 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony in January 2024.
