Actor Divya Spandana, popularly known as Ramya, a former Member of Parliament and prominent figure in the Kannada film industry, has filed a formal complaint with the Bengaluru Police Commissioner and the Karnataka State Womens Commission. The complaint alleges that she received a barrage of rape threats and graphic online abuse following a social media post expressing her support for the Supreme Courts decision concerning the bail granted to actor Darshan in the Renuka Swami murder case.

Spandanas post, which stated that the Supreme Courts decision represented a "ray of hope for the common people of India" and called for justice for Renuka Swamis family, ignited a wave of online harassment. Supporters of Darshan, who was accused of murder, targeted Spandana with sexually explicit threats and abusive messages. The intensity and graphic nature of the threats prompted Spandana to seek legal recourse.

In her complaint, Spandana specifically named 43 social media accounts responsible for the most egregious abuse, though she indicated that many more accounts were involved in the harassment campaign. The Karnataka State Women's Commission has formally written to the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, demanding immediate action against those responsible. Commissioner Kamal Pant has publicly committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
