Strict action is being taken against offenders to ensure cleanliness and public health.
Dehradun: The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun has expanded its drone surveillance system to cover not just sanitation but also animal control and public safety.
Fifteen drones are now flying over the city’s main roads, public places, and sensitive areas to monitor stray dogs, aggressive behavior, and violations of cleanliness rules.
Corporation began using drones to monitor garbage dumping in various wards
About a month ago, the corporation began using drones to monitor garbage dumping in various wards. Whenever garbage was spotted in the open, cleaning teams were dispatched immediately, and challans were issued against violators. Encouraged by the success of this initiative, the corporation has now integrated drone surveillance with its Veterinary and Animal Control Section.
Focus on Stray Dogs and Meat Shops
Under this new system, drones will help track stray dog packs and aggressive dogs in neighborhoods. Teams will be sent quickly to handle such situations. Strict action will also be taken against those feeding stray dogs outside designated feeding points.
Surveillance has also been increased at meat shops. Action is being taken against shopkeepers who dispose of meat waste along with general garbage, as this practice attracts stray dogs and creates sanitation problems.
Quick action was taken on drone alerts
On Wednesday morning, based on drone information, the veterinary section inspected a meat shop in Subhash Nagar, Clement Town. Senior Veterinary Officer Dr. Varun Agarwal confirmed that a challan was issued against Haji Maqbool Meat Shop for displaying meat in the open and keeping a chicken coop outside the shop.
Municipal officials stressed that strict action will continue against those violating rules related to cleanliness, animal control, and public health. Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal has instructed teams to act firmly against offenders to ensure discipline in the city.
Importance of the initiative
Officials believe this initiative is crucial for both sanitation and public safety. Stray dog packs and improper waste disposal have long been challenges in Dehradun. By combining modern technology with strict enforcement, the corporation hopes to create a cleaner and safer environment for residents.
Corporation aims to strengthen civic discipline
Dehradun’s drone surveillance system is now a multi‑purpose tool, tackling garbage dumping, stray dog control, and violations at meat shops. With 15 drones monitoring the city and teams responding swiftly, the Municipal Corporation aims to strengthen civic discipline and protect public health.
