New Delhi: The burnt body of 32-year-old UPSC aspirant Ramkesh Meena was found on October 6 in a fourth-floor flat in north Delhi’s Gandhi Vihar. The Delhi Police conducted a probe and found that he was murdered in a calculated way, and the murder began with rage.
Police have arrested three accused--Amrita Chauhan (21), Sumit Kashyap (27), and Sandeep Kumar (29), all residents of Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad. Amrita is a student of B.Sc. Forensic Science, who committed the murder and set the room on fire, was trying to make it look like an accident.
CCTV footage showed two young men and a young woman entering the building at night, and the police probe found Amrita's mobile phone location near the scene. During interrogation, Amrita revealed that the deceased had some private videos of her, which he had refused to delete.
Amrita conspired to murder him with her ex-boyfriend, Sumit, and friend Sandeep. The three strangled Ramkesh to death and then doused him with oil and alcohol and set him on fire. Sumit, an LPG cylinder distributor, used a gas cylinder to cause the explosion. They doused his body with oil, ghee, and liquor and set it ablaze using an open gas cylinder valve to simulate an explosion to eliminate any trace of the crime. They left the scene, and 15 minutes later, a blast destroyed the room.
During the investigation, police recovered a hard disk, a trolley bag, the deceased's shirt, and two mobile phones. They suspected murder since the body was too charred, the cylinder was too close to the body, the AC unit was not damaged, and Amrita switched off her phone. Later, when the police detained Amrita on October 18, she reportedly admitted to the crime. All accused are in police custody, and further investigation is underway.
