New Delhi: Amid the brewing hijab controversy circulating on social media, Patna student Nusrat Parveen did not report for duty on the first day of her posting. A few days ago, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had questioned the veil worn by the student while distributing joining certificates to AYUSH doctors.
Regarding the incident, the Patna civil surgeon confirmed that Parveen had reported for duty and worked until 7 pm on Saturday. He added that the “possibility window” for the day had also closed.
Clarifying further, Singh said there had been no contact with Parveen or her family since then. A surgeon from Sabalpur, Patna Sadar, also confirmed that she had not joined duty there. Parveen was required to report to the civil surgeon’s office before beginning work at her assigned workplace.
Meanwhile, Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan said he was disappointed to see people digging deep into the hijab controversy. He added that Nitish Kumar is like a father figure to Parveen and that people were unnecessarily creating a ruckus over a minor issue.
On the other hand, the Principal of the Government Tibbi College and Hospital said that Parveen’s family had maintained silence due to the massive media coverage surrounding the issue. He stated that neither Parveen nor her family was upset with Kumar’s behaviour and dismissed rumours of the family relocating to Kolkata.
The principal, Rehman, also mentioned that Parveen last attended college on December 17 or 18. He added that she still has the option to either continue her studies or join as a practising AYUSH doctor.
