‘Strict action if found guilty of violating GRAP IV’: Delhi Govt warns as AQI continues to remain high

Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) reached near 400 on Saturday. The national capital was enveloped in a thick blanket of fog amid chilly temperatures. The overall AQI of the national capital in last 24 hours was recorded at 398, as per the data shared by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

New Delhi: Amid increase in bad weather in Delhi in recent times, the Delhi Government on Saturday issued a warning that the national capital might experience “bad weather” and “western disturbance”. Pointing out that there had been complaints of construction work going on despite GRAP IV in place, it warned that strict action would be taken against those found guilty.

Taking to X, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa wrote, “There is an expectation of a Western Disturbance and bad weather in Delhi from this evening. Despite GRAP 4 being implemented, complaints about construction work are being received.”

He added, “I want to make it clear that those who are carrying out construction in this bad weather will face strict action against their buildings, and the relevant JE and XEN will also be held accountable with legal action taken against them.” The minister, while issuing further warning, added, “Additionally, no polluting industry inside Delhi, whether in an authorized area or unauthorized, will be allowed to operate.”

‘Strict action against polluting industries’

Sirsa further said that the Delhi Government would take strict action against polluting industries on Sunday and seal them. “We will not allow any tampering with the health of Delhi's people. I urge everyone to cooperate in making Delhi's air clean and safe,” he said further.

Notably, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached near 400 on Saturday. The national capital was enveloped in a thick blanket of fog amid chilly temperatures. The overall AQI of the national capital in last 24 hours was recorded at 398, as per the data shared by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).The temperature in Delhi significantly dropped on Saturday. While the maximum temperature was recorded at 16.0 degree celsius. The minimum was recorded at 6.1 degree celsius.
