IndiGo suspends passenger after slapping co-passenger; assaulted man now missing
An IndiGo passenger was suspended after assaulting a fellow passenger suffering a panic attack on a Mumbai-Kolkata flight. The incident, captured on video, went viral. The victim, Hossain Ahmed Mazumdar, is now reported missing after failing to arrive at his destination.
IndiGo airline has suspended a passenger from flying on its flights after he slapped a co-passenger on a Mumbai-Kolkata flight on Friday. The incident was filmed by another passenger inside the aircraft. The accused passenger allegedly attacked a man from Assam's Cachar district who was reportedly suffering from a mid-air panic attack.
The airline released a statement on Saturday, announcing the passenger's suspension, stating, "In line with our commitment to discourage such unruly behavior onboard flights, the individual has been suspended from flying on any IndiGo flights, in accordance with regulatory provisions." The incident reportedly occurred without any provocation from the victim's side.
The victim has been identified as Hossain Ahmed Mazumdar. A video of the assault, which quickly went viral, shows Mazumdar being escorted to his seat by flight attendants when the accused passenger suddenly slapped him.
In a deeply concerning development in the case, Mazumdar has since been reported missing. According to a Times of India report, Mazumdar, who was scheduled to reach Silchar from Kolkata after the flight, never arrived. "When we didn't find him on the Silchar flight, we contacted the local authorities and even went to Udharband police station near the Silchar airport," a relative of Mazumdar was quoted as saying.
Mazumdar's family, who were anxiously awaiting his arrival at the Silchar airport, have appealed to the authorities to locate him. They have requested access to CCTV footage from the airport and surrounding areas to trace his whereabouts.
