In its advisory, the MEA cautioned its citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to exercise heightened vigilance. It also asked them to avoid areas that have protests or demonstrations in recent times.
New Delhi: As protests across Iran continue to grow against the regime in Iran, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday issued an advisory for civilians urging them to avoid visiting the country.
In its advisory, the ministry has asked the public. "In view of the ongoing developments in Iran, Indian nationals are once again strongly advised to avoid travel to the Islamic Republic of Iran until further notice," the MEA said in a statement.
MEA urges Indians in Iran to leave immediately
It has also asked Indian nationals, currently living in Iran or visiting the country, to leave the country at the earliest in view of a surge in protests. Over the last few days, protesters have taken to the streets in various parts of Iran in protests against the depleting economy and currency reaching a historic high as compared to the dollar.
"All Indian nationals in Iran are requested to also have their travel and immigration documents, including passports and IDs, readily available with them. They are requested to contact the Indian Embassy for any assistance in this regard," the advisory added further.

Unregistered Indian nationals must complete registration: Embassy
Apart from this, the Indian embassy in Iran has also urged all unregistered Indian nationals to complete their registration through the Ministry of External Affairs’ online portal.
