New Delhi: A shocking video showing a serious negligence has come to light from Uttar Pradesh's Gonda Medical College, where rats were seen roaming freely inside the orthopaedics ward. From oxygen pipelines to patients' beds, rodents were spotted moving around the ward, raising serious concerns over hygiene and patient safety.
Taking cognisance of the matter, the District Magistrate pulled up the medical college administration. Following the DM's reprimand, the principal of the medical college ordered an inquiry into the incident. The principal said that pest control measures were immediately carried out in the wards after the video surfaced to eliminate rats and other insects.
The medical college administration also claimed that attendants of admitted patients bring food from outside, leaving eatables inside the ward, which attracts rats. However, this explanation has raised further questions, with many asking whether hospital authorities can shift responsibility onto patients' families to evade accountability.
An inquiry into the entire matter has been ordered to determine the level at which negligence occurred. The administration has stated that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
Meanwhile, the footage also attracted political reactions. The Congress party in a post on X, criticised the Uttar Pradesh government, sharing the video and alleging that the medical college appeared to be "meant for rats, not humans".
