New Delhi: Some jackals escaped from their enclosure at Delhi's National Zoological Park. The incident happened on Saturday morning, reported NDTV. A search operation was launched by the zoo authorities to get the animals back. They are mainly looking for the animals in the forest area which falls right behind the zoo.
Zoo management under scrutiny:
Following the breach, the zoo's preparedness and animal management practices followed there are being questioned. An official from the zoo, quoted by NDTV said that th jackals slipped out from the rear side of their enclosure. This door opens into a dense forest and is beyond the boundary wall of the zoo.
The official confirmed that the animal's escape would pose no threat to visitors. Visitors, in fact, remained unaware about the escape of the animals, according to him.
As of now, several teams from the zoo have been deployed to search for the jackals. The animals seem to have taken advantage of a gap at the back of their enclosure and ran off into the forest.
The jackals enclosure includes burrows and is covered with a wired mesh. There are also shaded areas inside the enclosure where the animals rest, said officials.
It is also suspected that the jackals have not escaped the zoo and are hiding inside the zoo premises itself. They have not yet been seen on the visitor's pathway, said officials.
So far the zoo authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the matter. There is also no official word on exactly how many jackals escaped the zoo.
