Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has expressed profound sadness and outrage following the brutal killing of Anjel Chakma, an MBA student from Tripura, in Dehradun. Anjel Chakma was reportedly stabbed after allegedly facing racial abuse on 9th December, later succumbing to his injuries during hospital treatment.

Mr. Rijiju underscored the urgent need to ensure the safety and protection of people from India’s Northeast, stating that such incidents should sadden the entire nation. He highlighted concerns that individuals are being attacked or killed based on their caste, religion, region, or appearance.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved financial assistance for Anjel Chakmas father, Tarun Prasad Chakma. Chief Minister Dhami extended condolences and promised strict action against the perpetrators, assuring justice for the family.

Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, including two minors who have been sent to a juvenile reform home.
