Police sources said that sixty-six-year-old Ashok Kumari Goyal, wife of former Additional Advocate General of Punjab and Haryana High Court Krishna Kumar Goyal, has been murdered in Mohali.

Domestic worker discovered her body

Her body was discovered in the morning by a domestic worker at the Goyals’ residence in Phase 5, reports said. The housekeeper was found tied to a chair, while the woman had been strangled. Police said the murder was apparently motivated by robbery, with the assailants tying up the household servant before fleeing with jewellery and cash.

Household servant detained

Police have detained the servant over his suspected role in the killing and are interrogating him. The 25-year-old servant has been identified as Neeraj. He had been employed by the Goyal family for nine years, sources added. Police are also examining why the attackers killed the woman but spared the servant, even though he may have posed a greater risk to them.

Police sources also said that the servant’s statement seemed to be inconsistent. Neeraj, the household servant, claimed that the robber slammed his head against a wall. However, police didn't find any visible injury marks on his head, which raised suspicion and they detained him for questioning.
