iBomma mastermind caught: Server hacks, DRM bypass, and how movies leaked before release

New Delhi: For months, cybercrime officials were hunting a man who seemed to be a ghost. Immadi Ravi, the alleged mastermind behind the notorious iBomma piracy empire, had vanished. He’d slipped out of India, taunted the police from abroad, and even challenged them with a “catch me if you can” kind of dare. But last Friday night, the game was up. Ravi was caught in Kukatpally, Hyderabad. He’d returned quietly to the city, probably thinking he could avoid the radar. But the police were watching. Using phone signal tracking, they moved in. By Saturday night, he was in judicial custody and shifted to Chanchalguda Central Prison. iBomma’s shadow network iBomma and its mirror site Bappam had been haunting producers and filmmakers across South India. From the very day a film released, HD copies would pop up online, sometimes even before the theatrical shows. What made iBomma different was its slick design, regional language focus, and aggressive Telegram circulation. As per a...

Kawasaki Z1100 breaks cover in India: More muscle, more tech, same madness!

New Delhi: Kawasaki has officially introduced the new Z1100 in India, adding a more powerful machine to its naked sportbike line-up. Priced at ₹12.79 lakh (ex-showroom), the Z1100 replaces the Z1000 and brings in noticeable upgrades in engine capacity, electronic features, and overall riding setup. While the older Z1000 had already earned a strong fanbase for its aggressive street presence and sharp throttle response, the Z1100 now seems to push things further, at least on paper. The bike arrives at a time when the 1000cc supernaked segment is seeing fresh action, with rivals like the Honda CB1000 Hornet SP already in the market at ₹13.29 lakh (ex-showroom). Z1100: Aggressive design stays, engine grows bigger The Z1100 carries over Kawasaki’s Sugomi design language, keeping the signature sharpness intact. It still looks angry. Twin-pod LED headlamps give it that pouncing animal look, and the sculpted tank adds bulk visually. I personally never liked the stubby tail on the older...

Vine returns as diVine: AI-free video app now live in beta for Android and iOS

New Delhi: Vine is making a comeback, but not in the way most people expected. The iconic six-second video platform that helped launch a wave of internet creators in the early 2010s is being revived under a new name: diVine . Backed quietly by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, the reboot takes a step back from algorithm-heavy, AI-driven social feeds and returns to a simpler, more human kind of internet. The new app, diVine, is now live in beta on iOS via TestFlight and as an Android APK. It’s bringing along more than one lakh old Vine clips, all restored from an archive collected before the original app shut down in 2017. But this time, there 's a twist. The platform completely bans AI-generated content. A Vine revival with strict anti-AI rules The person leading this project is Evan Henshaw-Plath, known online as Rabble. He was one of the early employees at Twitter and worked closely with Dorsey. He’s spent the past several months rebuilding the old Vine archive from scratch....

Supreme Court wants petrol & diesel luxury cars out, EVs in!

New Delhi: It was a regular Thursday in Delhi, smog hanging heavy in the air, when the Supreme Court turned the spotlight sharply on India’s VIP car culture. The country’s top court threw a surprising punch at gas-guzzling luxury vehicles, suggesting it’s time to start phasing them out and make way for electric alternatives. And the best part? The court thinks this shift won’t hurt the average Indian, since only a tiny slice of the population can even afford these fuel-hungry machines. In a packed courtroom, the judges discussed the state of electric vehicle adoption in the country and made it clear: if bigger EVs are available today, then what’s stopping us from retiring high-end petrol and diesel cars first? It’s a bold idea, and it’s already sparking chatter across the auto industry, especially among enthusiasts of the ₹2 crore-plus luxury SUV segment. Supreme Court nudges government to start with the rich According to Bar and Bench , Justices Surya Kant and...

Turing Award winner Yann LeCun plans to quit Meta, build own AI company focused on world models

New Delhi: Meta’s chief AI scientist Yann LeCun, one of the founding fathers of modern artificial intelligence, is reportedly preparing to leave the company to launch his own start-up, as per the Financial Times. The Turing Award-winning researcher, who joined Meta (then Facebook) in 2013, has begun speaking with investors and recruiting colleagues for the new venture, according to The Wall Street Journal. If the move happens, it will mark the end of an era for Meta’s long-term AI research division, FAIR (Fundamental AI Research), which LeCun has led for over a decade. The veteran scientist’s exit would come at a time when Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg is reshaping the company’s AI roadmap to catch up with OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. Why Google, Jeff Bezos, and Sam Altman want to build AI data centres in space

New Delhi: Data centres are growing like weeds — but so are their problems. With AI eating up more and more power, companies face rising electricity bills, increasing emissions, and huge water use. Some projections say that by 2030, power demand from AI data centres alone could increase by as much as 165 percent. And over half of that energy today comes from fossil fuels, threatening to undo climate progress. Now imagine moving these vast computing farms off-Earth and into orbit. It may sound like science fiction but big names like Google LLC, Jeff Bezos, and Sam Altman are seriously flirting with the idea of space-based data centres. Why even think of data centres in space The logic is simple: on Earth, data centres fight with power, cooling, land and water. In space you can tap near-continuous sunlight and avoid many earthly limits. Google’s blog on its Project Suncatcher says a solar panel “can be up to eight times more productive than on earth” in the right orbit. The...

Apple may hide the selfie camera under the screen in 2027 iPhone

New Delhi: Apple is reportedly preparing to hide the front-facing camera beneath the display of its 2027 iPhone, marking a major design shift for the company’s 20th anniversary model. The leak, shared by Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo , suggests that Apple’s under-screen camera development is progressing on schedule and could appear one year after under-screen Face ID debuts on the iPhone 18 Pro lineup in 2026. If the report holds true, the 2027 iPhone will feature a completely uninterrupted screen with no visible cutouts or notches—something Apple has been gradually working toward since the introduction of the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022. Under-display camera technology in the works While a few Android brands already use under-display selfie cameras, the results have been far from perfect. The images often look hazy or lack sharpness due to light passing through multiple display layers. Apple seems to have avoided adopting the technology for that...
