New Delhi: An advisory was issued by the Gurugram deputy commissioner on Sunday as the air quality continued to worsen in Delhi-NCR. The advisory directed all private offices to adopt a work-from-home arrangement. The Gurugram district administration has also changed the working hours of all government offices in the region.
The advisory comes in the wake of the enforcement of Phase IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) across the Delhi-NCR areas. Air quality in Delhi and surrounding areas has been deteriorating over the past few days.
On Monday morning, Gurugram recorded an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 325, putting it in the ‘very poor’ category. Delhi registered an AQI of 366, also classified as ‘very poor’, as per the data displayed on the Sameer app developed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
As per the advisory, Gurugram deputy commissioner Ajay Kumar requested all private offices in the region to adopt a work-from-home arrangement until further orders, after the air quality sees improvement.
The Gurugram district administration has also altered the working hours of all public offices under the state government and municipal bodies in the district. It has pointed out that all state government offices in Gurugram will function from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm.
The offices of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram and the Municipal Corporation of Manesar will function from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. Offices under the municipal council in Sohna, the municipal council in Pataudi Mandi, and the municipal committee in Farrukhnagar will also follow the similar working hours of 8.30 am to 4.30 pm.
The changed office timings are aimed at spread out commuting during peak hours and curb traffic congestion in the morning and evening. The district administration said the order will remain in force for as long as GRAP-IV continues to be implemented in the area.
According to officials, these measures are being taken considering public health hazard and environmental protection.
