Paresh Rawal’s latest film Ajey has finally crossed the CBFC hurdles and hits the cinema hall today. The actor feels freedom of expression is very important but said, "I also feel that freedom of expression doesn’t mean that I have the right to hurt someone else’s sentiments or feelings. Free speech doesn’t mean that I can say anything. It has to have its limitations. Our society is matured in some areas and not so matured in others. So we have to be reasonable and think about what we’re saying. This I believe in. I can’t use freedom of speech and freedom of expression as an excuse to say just about anything. That’s wrong."
Rawal also shares his insights on the way things are going for Indian cinema, Rawal said, "everyone is able to see the movies on their mobile. Why should people go to the theatres? Everything is so expensive at the theatres. One would spend 5k–6k only on travelling to the cinema, parking and enjoying a film with food and beverage. And people don’t have that kind of money, not when they can watch it for free. Aamir said he will not give his film to an OTT, that’s how people went to the theatres to see his film. The two years of Covid made people complacent and they got to watch everything for free. So now it’s a habit for them. The magic of the theatre doesn’t exist anymore. The heroine with her makeup, the hero with his stunts. That mysticism is gone."
On hearing about Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek filing for protection of personality rights, Rawal said, "do agree with them and with the advent of AI it is important otherwise it will create another Aishwarya. And technology has no morality and I feel there is need for strict regulation that shouldn’t be on paper but needs to be enforced in reality."
