Pune: Jailed gangster arrives to file nomination for civic polls with hands tied, face covered

Jailed gangster, Bandu Andekar fild his nomination for the upcoming civic polls in Pune. He waas brought to the nomination centre in handcuffs and with his face covered. The man is the key accused in the murder of Ayush Komkar, his grandson. Apart from him, the 2 co-accused in this case, Laxmi Andekar and Sonali Andekar also filed their nominations.

New Delhi: Bandu Andekar, a local gang leader has filed his nomination for the upcoming civic polls in Pune. The man was taken to a government office with his hands tied and face covered with a black cloth by the police, so that he could file his nomination papers. He is accused of killing his grandson.

According to a report in NDTV, Andekar filed his nomination papers for the Pune civic polls as an Independent. He is currently in judicial custody for the murder of his grandson, Ayush Komkar. The MCOCA court in Pune granted him conditional bail for a day, so that he could file his nomination. The man arrived to file his nominations under heavy security.

Andekar's sister-in-law Laxmi Andekar and daughter-in-law Sonali Andekar, who are co-accused in the case also filed their nominations for the civic polls. Both of them also received permission from the court.

Municipal elections in Pune and 28 other civic bodies in Maharashtra are scheduled for January 15, 2026.

Andekar, with his hands tied and face covered in a black cloth, was brought to the nomination centre in Bhavani Peth. He came to the centre in a police vehicle from the Yerwada Central Jail where he is currently lodged. While walking to the entrance gate, he was heard raising slogans in his own support.

The jailed gangster and his relatives however failed to file their nominations at the ward office of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), because of absence of some important papers required for filing nominations. 

Ayush was killed on September 9. He was the son of Ganesh Komkar, who is also a criminal, accused in the murder of former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator and Bandu Andekar's son Vanraj Andekar.

Apart from Bandu Andekar, Laxmi Udaykant Andekar (60), Sonali Vanraj Andekar and 15 others are currently in judicial custody for the murder of Ayush.
