Revanth Reddy Accuses BJP of Opposing Caste Census

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy criticised the BJP and RSS for their alleged century-long opposition to a caste census. He attributed the current push for a caste census to Rahul Gandhis election promise and credited Sonia Gandhi with securing Telangana's statehood. Redd'ys statement represents a significant political manoeuvre.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's recent address delivered a strong political message, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of actively opposing a nationwide caste census for almost 100 years.

His statement, delivered in the context of the ongoing debate surrounding the census, highlighted key events and figures in the political landscape. Reddy cited a 2020 Supreme Court case where the BJP allegedly filed a writ opposing the caste census. He further referred to a public statement by Rajnath Singh in the Lok Sabha, confirming the BJP's unwillingness to conduct such a census.

This, he argued, demonstrates a long-standing resistance to the initiative by the BJP and RSS. In contrast, Reddy pointed to Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, a 4000-kilometre march across India, where the Congress leader pledged to conduct a caste census if the Congress party were to come to power. Reddy emphasised that this promise was being fulfilled, aligning the current push for a caste census with a key Congress election commitment.
