Tensions escalated inside Ahmedabads Sabarmati Jail after an ISIS terror accused, Ahmed Saiyed, was violently assaulted by three fellow inmates. Saiyed, who is suspected of involvement in a Ricin terror plot and multiple attack schemes, had only been transferred to the high-security prison the previous day following his arrest by the Gujarat ATS.
The attack left Saiyed with injuries to his face and near his eye, necessitating his immediate transfer to the civil hospital for treatment before he was returned to custody. The assailants were identified as Anil Kuman and Shivam Sharma, both accused in murder cases, and Ankit Lodi, facing charges under POCSO. There is suspicion that a metal ring may have been used during the assault.
Raniyp police have registered a complaint, and jail officials have initiated questioning of the involved inmates. This incident has raised serious questions regarding security protocols within the correctional facility, especially in the context of Gujarat ATSs active operations against ISIS-linked individuals.
