The Supreme Court has intervened in the high-profile Unnao rape case, staying the Delhi High Courts order that had suspended the sentence and granted bail to former Uttar Pradesh MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

This significant interim order means Sengars bail remains on hold, providing a measure of relief for the survivor. A bench led by the Chief Justice of India, alongside Justices J. K. Maheshwari and A. G. Masih, passed this decision.

The apex court heard two pleas: one filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and another by advocates Anjuli Patel and Pooja Shivkar, both challenging the High Court's ruling. While issuing the stay, the Supreme Court has sought a response from Kuldeep Singh Sengar within four weeks.

This action ensures that the rape convicts bail, along with the suspension of his life sentence, is paused pending further review by the top court. The survivors family expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Court's decision, viewing it as a small opportunity for respite.
