Chennai: Two potent weather systems over the Bay of Bengal have intensified, with one strengthening into a deep depression and another low-pressure area forming off the Sri Lankan coast, leading to heavy rainfall and triggering precautionary school holidays in parts of southern Tamil Nadu. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of further intensification, keeping the region on high alert.

System 1: Deep Depression Strengthens, Cyclone Threat Looms

The depression over the Strait of Malacca has now intensified into a deep depression, as predicted by the IMD. The system is currently moving in a west-northwesterly direction and is expected to strengthen further. While the IMD's latest update states it will "strengthen further," previous forecasts had indicated a potential for it to develop into a cyclonic storm, a possibility that remains under close watch.
