Tamil Nadu weather update: State braces for chilly Pongal as minimum temperatures fall below normal
Chennai weather | The meteorological department has stated that the sky in Chennai will be partly cloudy today, and the maximum temperature is expected to be around 26 to 27° Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be around 21° Celsius.
Chennai: As people begin traveling to their hometowns for Pongal, Tamil Nadu is set to experience a noticeable drop in temperatures, with cool conditions expected to prevail through the harvest festival. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature across the state, including Chennai, is likely to decrease by 2–3°C between today and January 16, settling at or below normal levels.
Tamil Nadu rain and weather forecast
A lower-level atmospheric circulation over the Comorin Sea is expected to bring light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning to a few places in South Tamil Nadu and isolated areas in North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal today. Similar conditions are forecast for tomorrow, January 14.
From January 15 to 18, dry weather is likely to prevail across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, offering clear skies for Pongal celebrations on January 15.

As families hit the roads for Pongal, the cool and partly wet conditions today may give way to drier and crisper days just in time for the main celebrations.
