New Delhi: An 18-year-old delivery boy was allegedly assaulted by a showroom owner for using perfume inside the shop premises in East Delhi on Monday. The victim has been identified as Risha Kumar, son of Lalla Babu, aged around 18 years, and a resident of Harijan Basti near Ambedkar Park, Old Kondli.
According to initial findings, an altercation broke out between the shop owner and the delivery employee after the latter used perfume inside the showroom. Following the argument, the owner allegedly assaulted the employee inside the shop.
Police took cognisance of the matter after the incident was reported. “Necessary legal action has been initiated under relevant provisions of the law, and further investigation is underway,” officials said.
Police officials stated that they received a complaint alleging that a Zepto showroom owner restrained and assaulted a delivery employee for using perfume.
Last month, a delivery executive working for quick-commerce platform Zepto was allegedly assaulted by two motorcycle-borne men following a collision in Bengaluru’s Mahadevpura area. In a video circulated on social media, the delivery boy—wearing a helmet—was seen being violently beaten by the two men.
The victim was carrying out his routine delivery when he was suddenly attacked by the unidentified assailants. Shocked by the incident, he was unable to defend himself as the assault continued.
In another incident, a 25-year-old delivery partner working for Zepto lost his life in a road accident in Hyderabad. The incident, which took place late Monday night near Mehdipatnam, sparked outrage among gig worker unions, who raised concerns over the high-pressure environment created by “ultra-fast” delivery promises.
The victim, identified as K Abhishek, a resident of Shaikpet and a final-year BBA student, was working as a delivery executive to support his family.
According to the Mehdipatnam police, Abhishek was travelling towards Tolichowki on his two-wheeler to deliver an order when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle on a busy road. His bike skidded, and a private travel bus following closely behind ran over him, killing him on the spot.
