Telangana Speaker dismisses disqualification petitions against five MLAs
Speaker Gaddam Prasad refuses to initiate disqualification proceedings against five MLAs, who defected from the BRS.
Hyderabad: Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar dismissed the disqualification petitions against five MLAs on Wednesday, December 17 and rejected the allegations against the five MLAs.
Speaker Gaddam Prasad stated there is no evidence warranting disqualification and that MLAs Tellam Venkat Rao, Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, Prakash Goud, and Arikepudi Gandhi remain with the BRS.
Disqualification petitions were filed against a total of 10 MLAs, and the inquiry has been completed for eight of them. The inquiry into the petitions filed against Danam Nagender and Kadiyam Srihari is yet to be completed. The Speaker has completed the inquiry for eight MLAs, delivered the verdict for five of them on Wednesday. The verdict on Pochampally Srinivas Reddy, Kale Yadaya, and Sanjay Kumar will be delivered on Thursday.
BRS leaders respond to verdict:
BRS MLAs said that they would go to High Court against the speaker's ruling. Speaking to the media, BRS MLA Vivekanand Goud said, "The BRS opposes the decision taken by the Speaker. He has failed in fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities. The Speaker's judgment reflects what the Chief Minister said. The ruling undermines faith in institutions." Others said that they will go to the High Court against the Speaker's ruling and that they will wage a legal battle.
SC to hear BRS plea on December 19:
The Supreme Court will hear the petition filed by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on December 19, seeking directions for the Speaker to take a quick decision on the disqualification petitions.
