New Delhi: A 26-year-old pregnant woman was stabbed to death by her husband in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut city on Saturday. The accused identified as Ravi Shankar killed his seven-month pregnant wife and subsequently surrendered to the police.
The incident took place at the residence of victim's sister. Police have arrested Shankar and sent Sapna's body for post mortem examination.
Shankar and Sapna tied the knot earlier in January. The couple frequently argued with each other, following which Sapna shifted to her sister Pinky's house at Amhera. Sapna, a resident of Jatav Gate was living at her sister Pinky’s in-laws’ house in Amhera for the past five months, NDTV reported.
On Saturday morning, Shankar arrived at Pinky's house and requested to speak to his wife. Subsequently, he took Sapna to a room in the first floor and locked it from inside. As the discord exceeded, Shankar unable to control his rage, attacked Sapna. Witnesses including, neighbours heard screams and shouts of Sapna begging for her life. Even after her repeated requests, he attacked her with a knife.
When Sapna's sister and others tried to intervene, the door had already was locked from the inside. Anybody could get inside the room until the police arrived and broke it open. Inside, they found Ravi Shankar sitting next to his wife's body, with blood splattered across the room. The accused husband called the police and informed them about the incident.
According to police, he slit her throat and continued to stab her several times even after she had died. Sapna's brother-in-law claimed that she was seven months pregnant. A murder case has been registered against Shankar and they are investigating the case thoroughly.
