Fog troubles in plains

On Sunday, the weather in Dehradun remained dry and sunny. However, in the plains, especially Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, dense fog reduced visibility in the morning and evening. This has caused difficulties for commuters, with reports of slow-moving traffic and increased risk of accidents. The department has warned that cold day conditions may develop in these districts, making life harder for residents.

Sunshine in hills

In contrast, the hilly areas of Uttarakhand are experiencing clear skies and bright sunshine. This has brought relief to locals and tourists, though the cold remains sharp in the mornings and evenings.

Change expected from Tuesday

According to the Meteorological Centre, the weather is expected to change from Tuesday, December 30. Rain and snowfall are likely in the higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh. Snowfall is expected in areas above 3,200 meters, which could affect travel and connectivity in these regions.

The forecast says the weather will remain dry in other districts, but the plains will continue to face dense fog.

Yellow alert issued

The yellow alert means residents should remain cautious. Dense fog can cause road accidents, disrupt flights, and affect daily life. The department has advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy hours and to use fog lights while driving.

Impact on daily life

Locals in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar say the fog has made mornings extremely difficult. Schoolchildren, office-goers, and farmers are struggling with poor visibility and biting cold. In Dehradun, Champawat, and Nainital, fog has also been reported in patches, though sunshine during the day has provided some relief.

Tourism and pilgrimage

With snowfall expected in the higher regions, tourists heading to hill stations like Auli, Kedarnath, and Badrinath may face travel delays. Authorities have urged visitors to check weather updates before planning trips.
