‘We are one nation, we stand for one another’: Arunachal woman’s message for trolls after Shanghai incident

New Delhi: The Indian woman who was recently detained at Shanghai airport in China for being of Arunachal Pradesh took to social media and posted a message of unity. The woman who stayed in the United Kingdom was on her way to Japan. She was in Shahnghai for a three-hour layover when she was detained.
Prema Wangjom Thongdok, in her post thanked everyone for the support. She wrote, "While I’m new here and not active on X, it’s because I have a very high profile. Full-time position working in the financial services and don’t have idle time to answer trolls! The right people get it.”
Thongdok, who is originally from Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district, dismissed online trolls who tried to downplay her experience and said that she would not "engage with (them) anyway."
"I don’t even live in India so any action that the Indian govt takes will be for the benefit & pride of my fellow Indians and Arunachalis living here, not mine. We are one nation we stand for one another,” she further said.
What is the incident?
Recently, Thongdok was travelling from the United Kingdom. She got down in Shanghai airport of China for a three-hour layover. During the immigration check she was singled out and taken to immigration officials, where she was even mocked at.
"When I tried to question them and ask them what the issue was, they said, ‘Arunachal is not part of India’ and started mocking and laughing and saying things like ‘you should apply for the Chinese passport, you’re Chinese, you’re not Indian,’” Thongdok said while speaking to news agency ANI.
Woman’s passport was confiscated
She also claimed that her passport was confiscated and she was not allowed to fly to Japan. Later, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a strong protest over the incident and reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh remained an internal part of India.
