According to Counterpoint Research, Apple has recorded double-digit growth in the US and China in its annual sales. An overheat of US-China trade tensions as well as a weaker dollar also helped Apple to improve its performance in emerging markets. A combination of these will see the iPhone company rise ahead of Samsung in terms of shipments across the world throughout this year.
Counterpoint projects iPhone shipments to increase by 10 per cent in 2025, which is way ahead of the 4.6 per cent projected by Samsung. The smartphone market in general will only grow by 3.3%. Apple is poised to take the number one position with a 19.4 per cent share, its first since the year 2011.
Analysts believe there is a big upgrade cycle that is taking place. Millions of consumers that purchased smartphones in the Covid boom are now upgrading their devices. The number of secondhand iPhones sold between 2023 and mid-2025 would be more than 350 million, which makes up a big number of future upgraders who would have turned to new models.
It is anticipated that Apple will increase its gap in future products. The iPhone 2026 will have a foldable iPhone and a cheaper iPhone 17e. In 2027, one of the biggest design redesigns should also be anticipated. Analysts are very optimistic that such launches will see Apple remain in the number one position up to the year 2029.
Recently, Apple claimed that it was making more money than it anticipated. With almost $140 billion in sales during the holiday quarter, the company is almost on the verge of making a new record.
