West Bengal: Ex-staffer sexually assaults minor girl in hospital, arrested
A 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a former staffer at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. The police have registered a complaint under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
New Delhi: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a former staffer of the government-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata. The police have registered a formal complaint under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused has been identified as Amit Mallick, was a ex-ward boy. Allegedly, the minor was taken to the hospital toilet and sexually assaulted.
How did the accused lure the minor?
The teenage girl had visited an outpatient’s department at SSKM on Wednesday afternoon. As per the complaint, her parents were occupied at the ticket counter filling up and submitting the form required for meeting a doctor, the accused tricked the girl on some pretext to the washroom at the trauma care centre.
Upon receiving verbal information about the incident, the Bhowanipore police contacted the victim and recorded her statement. The police then arrested the accused from Kolkata’s Dhapa area. Mallick is a former ward boy at the hospital and was posted at another state-run hospital, Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital.
Frequent rape incidents
A few days ago, a similar threatening incident took place in Kolkata. Three people were arrested for assaulting a woman junior resident doctor at Uluberia Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Government Medical College and Hospital. The arrests followed a police complaint filed by the doctor on Monday (October 20, 2025) evening. The accused, reportedly, family members of a patient, had allegedly manhandled and abused her earlier that afternoon.
In 2024, a post-graduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered at another state-run hospital, the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the incident led to a massive outrage in the country.
