West Bengal Political Confrontation: TMCs Criminal Sheltering Allegation Against Raj Bhavan

| Updated on: Nov 17, 2025 | 08:25 AM

West Bengal is currently experiencing a significant political confrontation between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Raj Bhavan. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee has made a serious accusation, alleging that the Raj Bhavan is sheltering criminals.

This charge has been strongly refuted by Governor C.V. Ananda Bose, who has labelled it as defamatory and an attempt to intimidate constitutional offices.

In an unprecedented move to counter the accusation, the Governor’s office announced that the Raj Bhavan gates would be opened for public inspection from 5 AM, inviting MPs, civil society groups, and journalists.

Governor Bose dismissed the allegation as "absurd" and akin to "searching in the dark for a black cat that does not exist," demanding that Mr Banerjee either apologise or face legal consequences. The incident has intensified concerns regarding political discourse, institutional trust, and democratic conduct within the state.
