West Bengal Governor appoints IAS Manoj Pant as Principal Secretary to CM in Chief Secretary rank
The appointment was issued by the state's Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department and will remain in effect "until further orders".
New Delhi: West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose on Wednesday appointed outgoing Chief Secretary Manoj Pant as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister in the rank of Chief Secretary, according to an official notification.
The appointment was issued by the state's Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department and will remain in effect "until further orders".
Nandini Chakravorty appointed new Chief Secretary
In a separate development, senior IAS officer Nandini Chakravorty has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of West Bengal, succeeding Pant.
The government notification read: "The Governor is pleased to appoint Dr Manoj Pant, Ex-IAS (WB:1991), as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister in the rank of Chief Secretary, until further order."
Pant given six-month extension in June
Pant, a 1991-batch IAS officer, had earlier been granted a six-month extension in June, allowing him to continue as Chief Secretary till December 31. According to reports, Pant was initially reluctant to accept the extension but was persuaded by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to continue in office.
