The IPL 2025 saw a new champion being crowned as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ended their title drought of 18 years with a sensational win over Punjab Kings (PBKS). Virat Kohli finally claimed the silverware that was missing from his glittering trophy cabinet as IPL got its new champion.
Over the years, the IPL has been a stage for many standout performers who have left a mark on the tournament. Among them, the leading run-scorer of each season is awarded the Orange Cap, appreciating their consistency and the run scoring ability. Indian legend Virat Kohli currently holds the record for most runs in a single IPL season (973). On the other hand, the Purple Cap is given to the bowler with the most wickets, recognising their skill and ability to take wickets on a consistent basis.
In case of a tie, the Purple Cap is awarded to the bowler with the better economy rate. Dwayne Bravo (2013) and Harshal Patel (2021) both claimed 32 wickets in a single IPL season, the most by any bowler. However, Bravo remains ahead due to his superior economy rate, as per IPL rules.
With IPL 2025 just around the corner, let's take a look at the full list of Orange and Purple cap winners in IPL history.
