New Delhi: Explosive batter Abhishek Sharma created history in T20 cricket, becoming the first-ever Indian to smack 100 maximums in a calendar year. He completed the milestone during Punjab’s match against Services in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 (SMAT) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
The world No. 1 T20I batter continued his sensational form in the ongoing tournament, smashing a brilliant 62 runs off 34 balls, with the help of eight boundaries and three maximums. During this innings, he reached the feat of 100 maximums, becoming the first Indian to do so.
Abhishek has now hit 101 maximums this year so far, in just 36 innings in T20 cricket. He has amassed 1,499 runs in the format this year, at an average of 42.82 and an astonishing strike rate of 204.22. He has also notched up nine half-centuries and three tons in the year to date.
Against Services, he also picked up two wickets with the ball, helping his team win the match by 73 runs, and was named Player of the Match. He had earlier scored a blistering century off just 32 balls against Bengal, hitting seven boundaries and 11 maximums in his innings. He amassed 148 runs off 52 balls in that match. His innings helped Punjab finish their allotted 20 overs on 310/5, which is the highest total in SMAT history.
The 25-year-old is the third-leading run-getter of the SMAT 2025-26 so far, scoring 304 runs from six innings at an average of 50.66 and an explosive strike rate of 249.18, including one hundred and two half-centuries. He is currently the no. 1-ranked batter in T20I cricket, with 920 rating points.
Abhishek will next be seen in action in the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa in Cuttack, starting on 9 December. All-rounder Hardik Pandya will also return to the team after an injury layoff kept him out of action for over two months.
