New Delhi: Australia will take on England in the first Ashes Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Friday, November 21. The Australian conditions will test the visitors and their aggressive brand of cricket.
The Three Lions have faced a 4-0 defeat on their last visit Down Under, which eventually forced them into transition. Australian captain Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood have been ruled out of the opening Test.
Steve Smith will lead the team in his absence, while Jake Weatherald and Brendan Doggett will make their debut. England have also named a 12-man squad for the Ashes opener. Mark Wood has been declared fit after suffering a tight hamstring on the opening day of England's only warm-up game against the Lions last week.
Jofra Archer, Brydon Carse, and Gus Atkinson are also included in the 12-member squad, with Shoaib Bashir as the only spin option. Ollie Pope is also in the squad ahead of Jacob Bethell for the No. 3 position after a century and a 90-run knock in the warm-up fixture.
