New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called for a meeting with the team management to discuss a roadmap across formats and streamline the communication among key stakeholders of Indian cricket. The meeting is scheduled to take place in Raipur on Wednesday, ahead of the second ODI between India and South Africa.
According to a report from Sportstar, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, joint secretary Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar will attend the meeting in Raipur.
It is still unclear whether BCCI president Mithun Manhas will attend. The possibility of senior players being called for the meeting is also low, as it is being planned on the match day.
A senior BCCI official confirmed to Sportstar that the reason behind the meeting is to ensure alignment between selectors and the team management to maintain consistency in selection, improve individual player development pathways, and improve overall team performance.
"During the home Test season, there have been instances of confusing tactics on and off the field. We want clarity and forward planning, especially with the next Test series eight months away," the official said as quoted by Sportstar.
The official also talked about the concerns about communication gaps between the management and senior limited-overs players, and said that India will be the favourites to defend the T20 World Cup in 2026 and are also strong contenders for the 2027 ODI World Cup, so they want these issues to be resolved quickly.
The BCCI official didn't take any name, but the situation points towards a communication gap between the management and the senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Since the duo announced their retirement from T20Is last year and stepped away from Test cricket during the IPL 2025, there have been many reports in the media about the communication gap between the senior players and the management.
