New Delhi: Ayush Badoni smashed a sensational double century against the East zone in the Duleep Trophy 2025 on Sunday, August 31. He scored an unbeaten 204 runs off 223 balls with the help of 13 boundaries and three maximums.
North Zone qualified for the semifinals of the tournament on the first-innings lead after their quarterfinal match against East Zone ended in a draw in Bengaluru. North Zone finished at 658/4 in the second innings, taking a massive lead of 833 runs before both teams agreed to end the match.
North Zone started the day at 388/2; they continued their brilliant batting performance as Badoni completed his hundred in 123 balls with a single. He celebrated with a simple wave of the bat after reaching on 99 with a six against Manishi.
Captain Ankit Kumar began the day on 168 runs, but fell two runs short of his double ton as he was caught at mid-on by Suraj Jaiswal in Mukhtar Hussain's over. He stitched a 150-run partnership with Badoni for the third wicket. Badoni then forged a 157-run partnership with Nishant Sindhu, who amassed 68 runs off 91 balls with two boundaries and five maximums.
Their sensational partnership helped the North Zone to cross the 600-run mark and extend their overall lead over 700. Badoni completed his second first-class double ton in 222 balls. Auqib Nabi was named Player of the Match for his five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick in the first innings of the East Zone.
Mohammed Shami bowled 11 overs in the North Zone's second innings, but he remained off the field on Day 4. He did not bowl in the final session of the third day either. Mukesh also didn't bowl in the second innings after experiencing a niggle in the first innings of the match.
