New Delhi: England will be ready for Travis Head should he open Australia’s innings in the second Ashes Test in Brisbane from Thursday, pacer Brydon Carse said on Monday.

Head was promoted atop the order to replace the injured Usman Khawaja in Australia's second innings and played a whirlwind knock to lead the hosts to victory in the series opener in Perth.

The left hander, who usually bats in the middle-order, smashed a 69-ball hundred, the second-fastest in Ashes history.

Carse said after receiving a battering, they have firmed up plans on how to neutralise Head after his match-turning 123.

Head said he is available to open again should his team want it though England would be ready for anyone that comes out of the dressing room.

"I think that was a phenomenal knock by a high-quality player. If he does open the batting again, we've got set plans we'll look to use," Carse said.

"But again, I don't think anything changes from a mindset thing. He had an incredible day out that afternoon... whatever we're presented with, we'll stick to our plans."

Wood doubtful

England slumped to an eight-wicket defeat inside two days but Carse was one of the better performers for the tourists, taking five wickets in a losing cause.

The tourists could be without tearaway Mark Wood in the second match, a day-night affair, owning to fitness issue but Carse claimed that they are settled for the pink-ball Test irrespective of his availability.

"I'll still be adaptable to whatever the situation brings," the 30-year-old said, three days ahead of the match.

"Obviously again different challenges this week, where we could be bowling under lights at different times.

"But I think as a bowling group we're quite settled in and where we're going to bowl and what our role is in the side."
