New Delhi: Team India defeated Sri Lanka in the Super Over during their final Asia Cup Super Four match at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday, September 26. Chasing the massive 203-run target, Hardik Pandya dismissed Kusal Mendis (0) in the first over of the innings

After his dismissal, Nissanka played a sensational knock and notched up his maiden T20I century. He struggled early on with his fitness, but did not hold back and forged a 127-run partnership with Kusal Perera to put India on the back foot.

Nothing seemed to be working for the Men in Blue till Kuldeep came and bowled a tight 12th over. In the very next over, Varun dismissed Perera, and then both Asalanka and Kamindu struggled, which put pressure on Nissanka. He eventually scored his hundred and fell on the first ball of the final over.

A lucky outside-edge boundary from Shanaka on the fifth ball saw Sri Lanka need three off the last delivery before the match went to a Super Over. Arshdeep was asked by Gambhir to bowl that over, and he delivered a crucial performance. He nailed the yorker and conceded just two runs. The Men in Blue needed just one ball to finish the required target.

Abhishek, Tilak help India post 203-run target

Earlier, Sri Lanka opted to bowl first and got off to a brilliant start as Theekshana dismissed Shubman Gill for 4 runs in the second over. But after his dismissal, Abhishek Sharma forged a 59-run partnership for the second wicket, but the duo departed after the powerplay.

Samson and Tilak batted brilliantly and stitched a 66-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Shanaka removed Samson on 39 runs, while Hardik Pandya was dismissed by Chameera on 2 runs. Tilak batted through, and Axar Patel also played a good cameo to take India over the 200-run mark.

Sri Lanka tried their best to chase down the target and took the game into the Super Over, but Suryakumar and Co. won the match on the first ball to maintain their unbeaten streak in the tournament. They will take on Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
