New Delhi: Former Mizoram Ranji Trophy cricketer Lalremruata Khiangte has passed away at the age of 38 after collapsing on the pitch during a local match. He was playing in a second division screening tournament for the Raiders Cricket Club (VRCC) at Suaka Cricket Ground in Sihhimui (Mizoram).
According to the Cricket Association of Mizoram (CAM), he suffered a stroke during the match and later succumbed despite being rushed to the hospital for treatment. Lalremruata was playing for VRCC and suddenly collapsed, which created chaos on the field as the players from both sides rushed towards him. He was immediately attended to and taken to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.
In a statement, the CAM confirmed the cause of his death and expressed deep condolences to the cricketer's family. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family; may God comfort them as they navigate this great loss," the CAM said.
A wicketkeeper-batter, Lalremruata, played two Ranji Trophy matches and also featured in seven games of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Lalremruata made his first-class debut against Meghalaya in 2018 and his last competitive match in 2022 against Nagaland. He also played for several clubs and served on the Senior Tournament Committee, contributing to the development of cricket at the grassroots level.

The BCCI released a statement on X, stating that the board is deeply saddened by the passing former Mizoram Ranji cricketer.
"He proudly represented Mizoram in the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The BCCI extends heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and the Mizoram cricket community," the statement added.
Mizoram's Sports and Youth Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar also expressed grief over the passing of Lalremruata.
