New Delhi: India will take on South Africa in the three-match Youth ODI series at the Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Saturday, December 3. The 14-year-old prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, will lead the Indian U19 team in the South Africa series.
After that, India will participate in the U-19 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia from January 15 to February 6. The tournament will feature 16 teams divided into four groups.
After that, a Super Six stage, semifinals, and a final will be played in Zimbabwe and Namibia. Five-time winners India have been placed in Group B alongside New Zealand, the USA, and Bangladesh.
India will start their World Cup campaign against the USA on January 15 at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, followed by the games against Bangladesh on January 17 at the same venue and New Zealand on January 24.
The Indian youth team regulars and the captain and vice-captain of the side for the upcoming World Cup, Ayush Mhatre and Vihaan Malhotra, have been ruled out of the South Africa tour. According to the BCCI, both players have sustained wrist injuries and will miss the series. They will join the squad ahead of the U19 World Cup.
