Philippe comes in place of replacing Inglis, who has still not recovered from a calf strain that forced him to sit out of Australia's tour of New Zealand. He last played an ODI against the West Indies in 2021 and returns to the national fold after a gap of four years.

Alex Carey, Australia's second-choice wicket-keeper, is unavailable for the first ODI due to his domestic commitment for South Australia's Sheffield Shield match against Queensland, which serves as preparation for the Ashes next month.

Zampa likely to return in Adelaide, Inglis set for Sydney return

He will rejoin the squad ahead of the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval, which may also witness the return of Zampa.

According to Cricket Australia, Inglis is likely to be available for the third ODI in Sydney on October 25.

While Philippe returns to international cricket after four years, Kuhnemann is in line to play his first ODI since 2022. Australia's other two spin-bowling options are Matt Short and Cooper Connolly.

India, on the other hand, will head into the series with a strong 15-member squad led by newly-appointed skipper Shubman Gill. The squad also features veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who will return to international action for the first time since the ICC Champions Trophy in February.

Kohli and Rohit will don the India colours during the three-game ODI series before returning home. Following the 50-over series, India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, will face Australia in a five-T20I series.
