New Delhi: Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna have attained their career-best spot in the International Cricket Council's (ICC) rankings after their brilliant performance in the five-match Test series between England and India.
Siraj picked up five wickets in the fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and helped the Men in Blue to level the series at the Oval in London. He was also the highest wicket-taker in the series, claiming 23 wickets and has jumped 12 places to 15th position in Test rankings.
Prasidh Krishna also attained a career-best 59th position after he and Siraj became only the second Indian duo to take four or more wickets each in both innings of a Test match. Earlier, this milestone was achieved by spinners Bishan Bedi and Erapalli Prasanna against Australia in Delhi in 1969.
India’s premium pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the last Test against England due to workload management, continues to lead the rankings with 889 points. He picked up 14 wickets in three Tests of the series at an average of 26.00.
Team India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has returned to the top 5 after his second hundred of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval. He rose three places and is on 792 points, while the only other Indian batter in the top 10 is Rishabh Pant, who has slipped one place to eighth as he missed the last Test due to a foot injury.
Joe Root, who broke several records during the five-match series, has strengthened his position at the top, while Harry Brook’s counter-attacking 98-run knock has helped him claw back to second spot.
England pacers Atkinson and Josh Tongue have also attained career-best rankings after finishing with eight wickets each in the last match. Atkinson is placed top 10 for the first time, while Tongue is up 14 spots to the 46th rank.
