New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is looking to sell two new teams for the next phase of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at an annual franchise fee of 1.3 billion Pakistani rupees, according to a PTI report.

The final auction for the sale of two franchises is scheduled to take place on January 8. Interestingly, the former owners of the Multan Sultans have also submitted initial bid documents to participate in the auction after relinquishing ownership of the franchise a few weeks ago, following differences with the PCB.

There is still no clarity from the PCB on the new owners for the Multan Sultans, but there are strong speculations that the board is set to manage the franchise itself for the 2026 season of PSL.

PCB confirms 12 bidders for two PSL teams

Meanwhile, the PCB have confirmed that around 12 parties, including five from overseas, have submitted initial bid documents to purchase two new franchises. The board has not yet released the final list of eligible bidders after conducting financial and technical due diligence.

Earlier this month, the PCB held PSL roadshows in cities like London and New York to attract foreign investors for the two new franchises. The PCB has also guaranteed a minimum distribution of 850 million Pakistani rupees to all franchises, starting from the 2026 season.

The board has also said that if a team's share from the central pool decreases in any season below the guaranteed amount, the PCB will cover the loss. The annual franchise fees of the six teams vary, but all eight teams in the expanded PSL will receive an equal share from the central revenue pool.

Quetta Gladiators are currently valued at 360 million rupees, while Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United are at 480 and 490 million, respectively. Karachi Kings are valued at 650 million, while Lahore Qalandars are at 670 million and Multan Sultans are at 1.8 billion.

The PCB has also informed all six franchises that they will be allowed to spend up to USD 1.4 million each to acquire players through the PSL draft for the 2026 season.
