Ottniel Baartman is South Africa’s silent assassin with the ball - a right-arm seamer who thrives on discipline, seam movement, and accuracy under pressure. Known for his consistency at the death and his calm temperament, Baartman has quietly become one of the country’s most effective T20 bowlers.

He began his domestic career with Griqualand West and made his First-class debut in the 2014–15 CSA 3-Day Cup. Over the years, he has represented Northern Cape, Dolphins, and KwaZulu-Natal, steadily building a reputation as a wicket-taking bowler with excellent control. One of his standout domestic seasons came in 2020–21, when he finished among the leading wicket-takers in the CSA T20 Challenge, which earned him a maiden national call-up for the Pakistan tour (though he was later withdrawn due to injury). In the 2023–24 domestic season, Baartman again impressed with his accuracy and economy, helping the Dolphins reach the final stages in both red and white-ball formats.

Baartman finally made his T20I debut for South Africa in 2024 against New Zealand, almost a decade after his professional debut. He also played his first ODI in the same year, against Ireland. His persistence paid off when he delivered impressive spells in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where he picked crucial wickets in the middle and death overs, helping South Africa reach the final - their best finish in the tournament’s history.

In franchise cricket, Baartman represents the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20, playing a key role in both of their title-winning campaigns (2023 and 2024). His ability to bowl accurate yorkers and maintain tight control in pressure situations has made him one of the most dependable domestic bowlers in South Africa’s T20 circuit.
