Blair Tickner

Blair Tickner is a right-arm fast-medium bowler known for his aggressive approach, tireless energy, and ability to extract bounce and movement from even the flattest pitches. A product of New Zealand’s strong domestic system, Tickner has earned a reputation as one of the country’s most reliable workhorses.

Born in Napier, Tickner started his cricketing journey began with the Central Districts. He first made an impression in domestic T20 cricket, where his pace and knack for picking up early wickets made him a go-to option in the Powerplay overs. His performances in the Super Smash were especially eye-catching, as he consistently finished among the tournament’s leading wicket-takers, showing an ability to bowl with intent and discipline under pressure. Those strong domestic seasons paved the way for his entry into the national setup, where New Zealand’s selectors saw in him a potential long-term fast-bowling option.

Tickner made his T20I debut for New Zealand in 2019 against India in Wellington, a fitting stage for someone who had earned his stripes through persistence and raw pace. Though his early
international career was stop-start, he gradually found his rhythm, earning selection across formats. He made his Test debut in 2023 against South Africa and impressed with his ability to maintain pressure in long spells, offering control and bounce on helpful surfaces.

Tickner spent the next few years as part of New Zealand’s extended pace group, stepping in whenever injuries created an opening for his return. His 2025 heroics against England, when he was recalled for the home series, were particularly impressive, marking a defining stretch in his international resurgence.
