Prabath Jayasuriya is a Sri Lankan left-arm orthodox spinner who has made a significant impact in Test cricket since his debut. Born on November 5, 1991, in Matale, Sri Lanka, Jayasuriya honed his skills at Christ Church College, Matale, and later at Lumbini College, Colombo.

He began his domestic career with Colombo Cricket Club, making his List A debut in December 2011 and his first-class debut in February 2012. Despite being a consistent performer in domestic cricket, Jayasuriya had to wait for his international breakthrough. He made his ODI debut on August 1, 2018, against South Africa but did not make a significant impact in the limited-overs format.

His Test debut came much later, on July 8, 2022, against Australia in Galle. In this match, he delivered a remarkable performance, taking 6 for 118 in the first innings and 6 for 59 in the second, totalling 12 wickets for 177 runs, the best match figures for a Sri Lankan on Test debut. This performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

Jayasuriya continued his impressive form in the subsequent series. Against Pakistan in July 2022, he took 17 wickets in two Tests, including multiple five-wicket hauls, and was named Player of the Series. His performances against Ireland in April 2023 were equally noteworthy, where he took 17 wickets across two Tests, including a ten-wicket haul in the first match.

Jayasuriya's journey from domestic cricket stalwart to international success story underscores his resilience and skill. His contributions have been pivotal in Sri Lanka's Test victories, and he continues to be a mainstay in their bowling lineup.
