New Delhi: India's Test and T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma reported at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) for fitness Tests on Saturday, August 30.
Gill was named India's T20I vice-captain for the Asia Cup 2025, which is scheduled to begin on September 9. Rohit and Gill were accompanied by fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Shardul Thakur.
Bumrah and Gill are part of India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025, while Rohit will prepare for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, which is set to begin in Perth on October 19.
The Indian Test skipper missed the ongoing Duleep Trophy quarterfinal against East Zone, where he was named captain of the North Zone, but opted out after catching flu. He was resting at his home in Chandigarh before travelling to Bengaluru.
According to a few media reports, Rohit and Virat Kohli likely play for India A in the three-match ODI series against Australia A, which is scheduled to begin at Green Park in Kanpur. The three games will be played on September 30, October 3, and October 5.
The series will provide much valuable match practice for both star batters ahead of the ODI series against Australia. Rohit last played a competitive match in June for the Mumbai Indians, while his last outing as an Indian player was in the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand on March 9 in Dubai.
He smashed 76 runs off 83 balls against the Blackcaps and won the Player of the match award. Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7.
As per media reports, Rohit and Virat could feature in the 2025 Vijay Hazare Trophy to keep their hopes alive for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit represents Mumbai in domestic cricket, whereas Kohli plays for Delhi, and they might play in the 50-over domestic competition.
