New Delhi: India had a remarkable year in ODI cricket as the Men in Blue lifted the 2025 Champions Trophy title after beating New Zealand in the final. Earlier this year, they also whitewashed England 3-0 in a home ODI series and wrapped it by defeating South Africa 2-1 at home.
The only setback for Team India came against Australia, when they lost the three-match ODI series by 2-1. Following the Champions Trophy triumph, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirements from Test cricket during the IPL 2025.
After that, several media reports suggested that the ODI series against Australia will be their last in international cricket. However, neither of them announced their retirement and ended the year as India's highest run-scorers in the 50-over format.
Kohli smashed a boundary to finish the final ODI match against South Africa in Vizag, surpassing Rohit Sharma as the highest ODI run-getter for India in 2025. He ended the year with 651 runs in 13 matches, while Rohit amassed 650 runs in 14 games.
Shreyas Iyer, who was ruled out of the ODI series against South Africa due to a rib injury, finished the year as the team's third-highest run-scorer. He scored 496 runs in 11 matches at an average of 49.60. Meanwhile, newly appointed skipper Shubman Gill also had a brilliant year, amassing 490 runs in 11 games.
