New Delhi: The Men in Blue will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, September 21. Team India suffered a massive blow in the last group stage match against Oman in Abu Dhabi, when all-rounder Axar Patel got injured while taking a catch.
The incident occurred in the 15th over when Patel ran to catch a leading edge from Hammad Mirza's bat off Shivam Dube's back-of-the-length delivery. He managed to reach the ball but failed to complete the catch as it went through his hands.
Patel fell awkwardly on his head while taking the catch, which hit the ground, and he was seen in some discomfort. After India's 21-run victory, fielding coach T Dilip provided an update on Patel's injury and revealed that he looked fine after the match.
"Just now I've seen Axar, he looks fine now at this point of time. That's what I can say about it," said T Dilip in the post-match press conference.
The all-rounder batted for the first time in the ongoing Asia Cup against Oman and smashed 26 runs off 13 balls, hitting three boundaries and a maximum. With the ball, he only bowled just one over and gave away four runs. He removed the Oman captain Jatinder Singh lbw, but the on-field call was overturned through the use of DRS.
The Indian fielding coach was asked about the short turnaround time for the team's next game against Pakistan and said that they treat every match as just another fixture and they're ready to face the arch-rivals again.
"Regarding the Pakistan game, everybody are geared up. We treat every game as the same and we know the schedule, how it is panned out. So every game is just another game and we're ready for it," he added.
After their victory against Oman, Suryakumar and Co. finished on top of Group A, winning all three of their matches against UAE, Pakistan and Oman. The tournament now moves to the Super 4 stage, where India will take on Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
