WPL Retentions: Wolvaardt, Deepti and Healy released as all five teams announce list of retained players
Gujarat Giants made a surprise call of not retaining Laura Wolvaardt, as all five teams confirmed their retentions ahead of the mega-auction.
New Delhi: Laura Wolvaardt, the highest scorer in the recently concluded Women's World Cup and Deepti Sharma, the Player of the tournament in the marquee event, are among the big names to be released ahead of the Women's Premier League (WPL) auction.
Gujarat Giants made a surprise call of not retaining Wolvaardt, as all five teams confirmed their retentions ahead of the mega-auction. Wolvaardt was released by the Giants as the rule allows only two overseas players to be retained. The Gujarat franchise chose to retain the Australian duo of Beth Mooney and Ashleigh Gardner.
Deepti released by UPW
Meanwhile, India's star all-rounder and World Cup winner Deepti was another big-name casualty. She was released by UP Warriorz despite being named the player of the tournament award in the WPL in 2024. Meanwhile, other big Indian names like Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Richa Ghosh, and Jemimah Rodrigues have all been retained by their respective teams.
